Arthur is a great-grandson of John Labatt, founder of the Labatt brewery. He began his career with Clarkson, Gordon & Company where he qualified as a chartered accountant and then moved to work in the securities industry in Montreal, Paris and Toronto. In 1981, along with two colleagues, he co-founded Trimark Investment Management, a mutual fund company, which was sold to AMVESCAP (now Invesco) having become one of the biggest fund houses in Canada with $25 billion under management.
Arthur became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2006 and won the Morningstar Canadian Investment Awards’ 2012 Career Achievement Award. He was also the Chancellor of the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in London, Ontario, Canada from 2004 to 2008.
Having been a client with ARC for more than a decade, in 2014 Arthur became an investor in the business and took the role of ARC Group Chairman.
